Hello,

Can anybody recommend a good online dictionary with medical abbreviations (French to English in particular) please? I am struggling on a medical translation that is full of them, and before I start pestering people on proz.com, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good webiste first?!

Sian - I have been using this one for ages. Although it is German, the explanations come up in German, English and French - or Greek or Latin.

It is the most comprehensive I know - there might be even better ones out there. If you come across them, please let me know.

Ages ago I found another little gem on an Austrian website:

by the 'Terminologie-Datenbank des Instituts für Translationswissenschaft'

It's in German, English, Frech, Italian and Spanish. I mainly use it for the medical stuff, but they have loads of other subject. It is by no means comprehensive, but they keep adding, and sometimes you can't access it - that's presumablly when they are in the process of adding.

1) www.google.com
2) Click on Advanced Search
3) Inside the first box titled "with all of the words" please type medical glossary (no symbols and just a space in between the two words).
4) From the File Format pull-down menu, choose "Adobe Acrobat PDF (.pdf)"
5) From the Occurences pull-down menu, choose "in the title of the page"
6) If you would like to choose any other options, such ... See more

I had completely forgotten about these two - I previously converted them to an Excel file and then incorporated them into my large 'personal medical dictionary'.

Thansk for the http://www.jdmd.com/glossary/index.html, which I have saved in my bookmarks!
