Hi. I will try to be as brief as possible. For the past few days, when I start my desktop, the keyboard is either non-responsive or gives a weird response, for example, I press esc and the start menu opens. My antivirus software is up to date, otherwise I'd think my pc has been infected. I have checked the connections, and even got a new keyboard, thinking that would help, but alas. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Check points Feb 20, 2009

Have you checked:

1) With another keyboard?

2) Use another USB-connection?

3) Removed applicable keys for checking oxidations on the botom side (i.e. remove possible oxidation)?

4) Reinstalled the keyboard driver?

a couple of questions Feb 20, 2009

Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear that. It must be soooooooo annoying...

There are many possible causes hardware wise:

1. How old is your desktop?

2. Have you ever opened the case and checked/cleaned inside? Computers love and collect tons of dust, which may cause a crooked behavior.

3. (probably not relevant, but) are your keyboards wired/wireless?

4. Do they USB or PS2 (connection), if USB, did you try other USB ports?

Check the keyboard settings Feb 21, 2009

Go to "Control Panel" and check your keyboard settings. The settings may have been altered to a non-English setting. Change the settings to suit the language/languages that you normally use to set up your system.

Not very helpful but... Feb 21, 2009

Have you changed the batteries? Sometimes low batteries will produce random behaviour.
