I wonder if burnout can be caused by lack of work?

I become somewhat cranky and edgy. And that's a signal for me that says: time to book a nice vacation.

When I start hitting the wrong key sequence it's time to take a break. Its length depends on the current workload and might last a week or two. Due to these errors I do become somewhat irritated which increases the number of errors so that I would only harm my reputation if I continue to work anyway due to poor quality.

Burnout is a serious medical condition that requires therapy, while the options in this poll rather suggest that fatigue is actually meant.

Definition by WHO (World Health Organization): Jun 22

Burnout is not classified as a formal mental illness or medical disease. Instead, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes it as an occupational phenomenon—a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed…

Fatigue also requires attention because it may be caused by underlying medical issues. “Fatigue” is not the same as being tired.

It's got to the stage when I get pleasantly surprised when from time to time a poll question uses words for what they actually mean.

Playing fast and loose with words has become all too 'normal' in many places, but wasn’t this one supposed to be for 'pros' in dealing with words ...?

The Worst Signs You Can Imagine Jun 24

Dark omens of my overwhelming burnout emerge: blood pressure soaring to 150/95 mm Hg, a heart relentlessly pounding at 130 bpm, and a suffocating feeling of breathlessness even in the simplest of clothes.

It sounds Jun 24

as if we had burnouts every other day. Severe fatigue, as Zea says, yes, sure, but no serious medical condition.

Eyes and more... Jun 24

First physical sign for me is smarting eyes where I have to blink several times to continue working but still not focusing properly. Then I start getting pain in right hand (wrist and elbow) and difficulty focusing in that order, time to call it a day or for a break therefore. I make sure I don't accept too much work at the same time as I don't function like that. At the moment it's either long periods of no work or ling periods of a great amount of work with which I can't cope either. Too much ... See more
