This is the manipulation of memory addresses in a computer system.
To assist in the translation of the meaning you must know that: 1, 1c and 1d are addresses in an available pool of addresses based on the hexadecimal mathematical environment. HEX = HEXA, in computer/math this is a base-16 address. This is used to relate to a location in the computer memory. To say these are substituted by the 1 means that these addresses will be elevated to 1 or a positive on that particular address.
