This month's (UK)issue of PC PRO magazine has some free Optical Reader software on the cover-disc. (ie: software to convert uneditable PDF files and text images into MS Word files).

There is a program that converts pdf to MSWord and vice versa. I used it and it is very easy to use and fairly good. I experienced some problem with MSWord after I installed, however. It crashed sometimes, but some other people I know haven't had that problem.
