Dear Colleagues,
I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation as to the best program to use for monolingual proofreading?

Mainly this is for academic texts written in English by non-native speakers, which I get to proofread/edit.
Since there are often a lot of diagrams etc., ideally I don't want something where you have to copy text into some window, but something where you can upload a Word document and get a revised Word document as the output.

Does anyone know anything that could fit the bill and produces good results? It doesn't have to be completely free.

(I would then probably do a document comparison and fine-tune the result. But since the non-native speakers make a lot of mistakes, at the moment there is a lot of spadework to do before the fine-tuning can happen. Hence I was wondering what the best tool is to lighten the load in that respect.)

That's true and I wasn't expecting to find something that would do the whole job for me. I proofread for some customers who are natives of very different languages, where there are a lot of errors (around 30-40 changes necessary per page) and I was wondering if I could find something to do the basics like subject-verb agreement, freeing me up to work on the finer points. Thanks.
