Sometimes people don't hear the lyrics right in the first place Nov 18, 2011

A friend once confessed to me that she thought the famous Beatles song went:
A strawberry feels forever... putting her off eating them as a child.

that I thought the famous The Who song had a refrain that went
"Dennis Quaid"
which is of course "can't explain".
So much for my musical ear

Usually I remember song lyrics (in my native language) very well. Probably because I was singer some time ago.
But yes I can remember couple of cases when I misunderstood the lyrics.

Usually I remember song lyrics (in my native language) very well. Probably because I was singer some time ago.
But yes I can remember couple of cases when I misunderstood the lyrics.
Ocasionally both cases are about birds

One song was in rock and (I seemed) had these words (in Russian): 'we are falling as birds HAMMERED INTO the ICE'. I was shocked. And yes, it was just very bad quality recording. When I get older and found this song in good quality I found the secret. Real words there were: 'we are falling as a birds killed on the fly'. At least this make some sense, isn't?

Another time it was silly-girl song, which I mentally tried to fill with some extra additional sense.
I imagined that she sings (in Russian again): 'The Furry changed into the bird'. It was cool and poetical in my mind.
A bit later I found that really it was: 'Once I transformed into bird' with colloquialism. I was disappointed.

I still remember an article from 1986 by Jack Smith in the L.A. Times, about rock lyrics, wherein someone thought Guantanmera was "One ton of metal"....someone else, "once on a meadow" and someone else, "one ton tomato".... http://articles.latimes.com/1986-08-19/news/vw-17150_1_lyrics
