inglés al español: Insurance plan description Detailed field: Seguros
Texto de origen - inglés Recognizing that your healthcare needs are not always as straightforward as doctor office visits and occasional prescription drugs, The Destiny Health Plan offers benefit features you won’t find in any other consumer-directed health plan. Your employer has selected these benefits as part of your employee benefits program to enhance your health plan. These additional benefits are there to cover you for services that are less controllable and more costly to you, and they help to preserve your savings account dollars, thereby helping you build more equity in your health plan. Previous claims examples in the “Using your plan day to day” section for the following services do not apply. Please refer to examples within this section.
Preventive Care Benefit
The Preventive Care Benefit or PCB provides 100% coverage for the first $400 per member, per policy year of select in-network preventive care services. These services are not subject to the annual deductible or coinsurance, and they are not paid for out of your savings account.
Expenses beyond this $400 benefit; services not included in this benefit; and out-of-network services may also be covered by The Destiny Health Plan, but are subject to the savings account, annual deductible and coinsurance components of the plan.
The Preventive Care Benefit covers common preventive services, such as:
· Well baby/child exams
· Immunizations;
· Mammograms;
· Colorectal screenings;
· Prostate exams; and
· Pap smears
Let’s take a look at how Destiny Health Plan member Laura uses the PCB
Laura’s mammogram has always been covered under The Destiny Health Plan. This year, however, her employer added the Preventive Care Benefit to her plan which means that instead of the cost of her mammogram coming out of her savings account, it’s now paid for by the Preventive Care Benefit, preserving those dollars in the savings account to use on more discretionary healthcare expenses.
Preventive Medication Benefit
The Preventive Medication Benefit or PMB provides first dollar coverage for medications for common illnesses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. These medications are to help prevent reoccurrence or reduce symptoms of a disease. This means that:
§ you won’t use your savings account to pay for these prescriptions,
§ you’ll simply pay the copay, and
§ the entire cost above the copay will be paid for by Insured Benefits.
Let’s take a look at how The Destiny Health Plan member Laura uses the PMB
Laura has diabetes, which requires daily medication. While the doctor visits were paid for from her savings account, the cost of her medication was paid for out of her Preventive Medication Benefit. Diabetes is one of a handful of common conditions covered by this benefit. She was only responsible for the prescription drug copays and is able to maintain a balance in her savings account to carry forward to next year.
· Reconocimientos médicos de bebés/niños;
· Vacunas;
· Mamografías;
· Pruebas de detección colorrectal;
· Pruebas de próstata; y
· Papanicolaos
español al inglés: My Religion - Essay by Miguel de Unamuno Detailed field: Religión
Texto de origen - español A friend from Chile tells me in a letter that he has encountered there some people who, referring to my writings, have asked him: "So, in short, what is this Mr. Unamuno's religion?" Such a question has also been addressed to me several times here (in Spain). I will try not so much to answer it -that is not my intention-, but to improve the postulation of the question itself.
Both individuals and peoples of lazy spirit -and there can be spiritual laziness along with very fruitful activities of economic and similar natures- lean towards dogmatism, whether they are aware of it or not; whether they want it or not; whether they intend it or not. Spiritual laziness flees from a critical or skeptical disposition.
And I say skeptical using the term skepticism in its etymological and philosophical sense, because skeptic doesn't refer to him who doubts, but him who investigates and researches, as opposed to him who asserts and believes to have found. There are those who meticulously scrutinize a problem, and there are those who provide a formula, whether it is correct or not, as a solution to the problem.
In purely philosophical speculation terms, it is hasty to demand a given solution when the postulation of the problem has been advanced. When you are mistaken in the beginning of a long calculation, erasing what you have done and starting anew is no small progress. When a house turns into ruins or becomes completely uninhabitable, the appropriate thing to do is to demolish it, not to build another one upon it. You can, of course, build the new one with the materials from the old, but you must demolish it first. In the meanwhile, people can lodge in a barrack, if they don't have an alternative house, or sleep under the open skies.
And we must not lose from sight the fact that we hardly ever need to wait for definitive scientific solutions for living our lives. Men have lived and continue to live on very frail hypotheses and explanations, and even without them. To punish the criminal, it was not debated whether he had free will or not, just as, when sneezing, we do not reflect on the potential harm we might inflict on the small obstacle in our throat that makes us sneeze.
Those who sustain that they would be bad were it not for their belief in eternal punishment in hell, I believe, in their honor, that they are mistaken. If they stopped believing in a supernatural sanction, this would not make them worse, but they would look for another ideal justification to their behavior. He who, being good, believes in a transcendent order, is not good because he believes in such, but he believes in such order because he is good. This proposition might appear obscure or twisted, I am sure, to those inquirers of lazy spirit.
And so, I will be asked, "What is your religion?" And I will respond: my religion is to search for truth in life and for life in truth, despite the certainty that I am not to find them in my lifetime; my religion is to incessantly and tirelessly fight against the mystery; my religion is to fight with God from sunrise until sunset, as it is said that Jacob fought with God. I cannot tolerate the "Unknown", or the "you will not get further than this". I oppose the eternal ignorabimus. And regardless of it all, I want to climb to the inaccessible.
"You shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect", said Christ, and such an ideal of perfection is, undoubtedly, unreachable. But He set the unreachable as our goal and end of our efforts. And that happened, as the theologians say, through grace. And I want to fight my fight regardless of the victory. Are there not armies and even peoples who march towards a certain defeat? Do we not praise those who died fighting instead of surrendering? This is then my religion.
Those who ask me that question want me to give them a dogma, a solution where the spirit can rest lazily. Not even that, for they seek to be able to label me and put me in a box like those they use for spirits, by saying of me: he is a Calvinist, a Catholic, an Atheist, a Rationalist, a Mystic, or any other label in this guise, whose exact meaning they ignore, but that dispenses them from thinking deeper. And I do not want to be labeled, because I, Miguel de Unamuno, just like any other man who aspires to a full consciousness, am a unique species. "There are no illnesses, but ill people", some doctors say, and I say that there are not opinions, but opinators.
When it comes to religion, there is hardly any issue that I have solved rationally, and therefore, I cannot communicate them logically, because only that which is rational is logical and transmissible. Yes, I have, on the part of affection, of the heart, of the sentiment, a strong tendency towards Christianity, without holding any specific dogmas of this or that Christian denomination. I consider a Christian anyone who invokes the name of Christ with love and respect, and I am disgusted by Orthodox people, be they Catholic or Protestant -as these are just as intolerant as those- who forbid to be Christian to those who do not interpret the Gospel like they do. I know Protestant Christians who deny that Unitarians are Christians too.
I honestly confess that the so-called rational proofs -the ontological, the cosmological and the ethical, etc.- of the existence of God do not prove anything; whatever the number of reasons they want to provide for the existence of God, I think they are based in paralogisms and begging the questions*. In this I agree with Kant. In this particular, I am sorry I cannot talk to the shoemakers in terms of shoemaking.
Nobody has succeeded in rationally convincing me of the existence of God, but neither of His non-existence; the argument of Atheists seems to me to be even more superficial and futile than those of their opponents. And if I believe in God, or at least I think I believe in Him, it is, first and foremost, because I want that God exists, and then because He has revealed Himself to me, through the heart, through the Gospel, and through Christ and History. It is a matter of the heart.
Which means that I am not as convinced of it as I am that two plus two equal four.
Were this a matter in which my peace of mind and solace for being born are not at stake, I would probably not be concerned with it; but since my entire inner life and the drive for every action of mine depend on it, I cannot be appeased with saying: I don't know and I cannot know. I don't know, that is true; maybe I will never know, but I "want" to know. I want to, and that is enough.
And I will spend my life fighting the mystery and despite having no hopes of discerning it, because this fight is my nourishment and my solace. Yes, my solace. I have gotten used to finding hope in desperation itself. Now fools and superficial people, do not scream "Paradox!"
I cannot conceive an educated man without this preoccupation, and I expect very little regarding culture -and culture is not the same as civilization- from those who live without an interest in the religious problem in its metaphysical dimension and only study it in its social or political dimension. I expect very little to be added to the spiritual wealth of humankind by those men or those peoples who, because of spiritual laziness, superficiality, scientificism, or whatever the reason, separate themselves from the great and eternal concerns of the heart. I don't expect anything from those who claim: "One should not think about that!"; I expect even less from those who believe in a Heaven and a Hell like those in which we believed as children, and I expect even less from those who state with the gravity of fools: "All that is nothing but fables and myths: the one who dies will be buried, and that is all there is." I only expect something from those who ignore, but refuse to ignore; from those who relentlessly fight for the truth and lend their own life to the fight itself, more than for the victory.
And the most important part of my work has always been that of unsettling my neighbors, stir the sediment of their hearts, to cause anguish, if I can. I said it already in my "Life of Don Quixote and Sancho", which is my most extensive confession in this matter. May they search as I do; may they fight as I do, for all of us together might pluck out some secrets from God, or, at least, that fight will make us truer, more spiritual men.
To carry out this task -religious task-, in towns like these Castilian towns, rotten by indolence and spiritual superficiality, lulled in the routine of the Catholic dogmatism or the free-thinking dogmatism, or the scientificist dogmatism, I have been forced to appear sometimes shameless and inappropriate, sometimes harsh and aggressive, and not seldom obscure and paradoxical. In our diminished literature, one would rarely hear anyone scream from the depths of their hearts, loosing their composure, crying out. Screaming was almost unknown. Writers feared to appear ridiculous. It happened to them, and still does, what happens to many a person who will endure an affront on the street for fear of the ridicule they would find themselves in if they appear with their hat out of place and detained by a policeman. Not me; whenever I felt like screaming, I have screamed. Decorum has never held me back. And this is one of the things that my fellow writers cannot forgive me for, so restrained and so correct as they are, so disciplined even when they preach incorrectness and indiscipline. Literary anarquists take care, above anything else, of style and syntax. And when they play out of tune, they still do it melodically; their discords are still harmonious.
Whenever I have felt pain, I have screamed, and I have screamed publicly. The psalms that appear in my volume Poems are nothing but cries from the heart, cries with which I have tried to touch the sensitive strings of others. If they don't have these strings, or they are so taut that they do not vibrate, my scream will not resonate in them, and they will claim that it is not poetry, while they examine it acoustically. One may as well study acoustically the cry of a man when he sees his child suddenly fall dead, and he who doesn't have a heart nor a child will be left with just that.
These psalms from my Poems, along with some other compositions that can be found in that volume, are my religion, my religion as it is chanted, instead of being presented in a logic and reasoned manner. And I chant it, better or worse, with the voice and ear that God has given me, because I cannot reason it. And he who sees in those verses of mine rationalization and logic, method and exegeses, instead of life, because they do not contain fauns, dryads, sylvans, water-lilies, "absinthe" (i. e., woodworm), glaucous eyes and other tawdry finery typical of the Modernists, he will be left unchanged, because I will not reach his heart either with violin tunes nor with a hammer.
What I run away from, to repeat myself, as if it were the plague, is from being classified, and I hope to die still hearing the lazy of spirit who might stop to hear me, asking: "And this gentleman, what is he?" Liberal or progressive fools will consider me a reactionary, maybe a mystic, without even knowing, of course, what such words mean; and reactionary and conservative fools will consider me as some kind of spiritual anarquist; and the former and the later will consider me a poor soul eager to be unique and be considered original, and whose mind is a complete mess. But nobody should care for what fools think of him, be they progressives or conservatives, liberals or reactionaries.
And since man is a stubborn being and doesn't want to understand, and usually reverts to the old ways after being lectured, these inquirers will ask me again, even after they read this: "Alright, but what solutions are you giving?" And I will conclude by saying that if they are looking for solutions, they should try in another shop, because in my shop I don't sell such an article. My effort has always been, is and will be that those who may read my work think and reflect on the things that are essential, and never to offer them ready-to-go ideas. I have always sought to stir and, at most, suggest, more than to instruct. If I sell bread, it is not so much bread as it is yeast or leaven.
There are friends, and good friends for that matter, who advice me to abandon this task and focus on what they call an objective work, something that is, they say, definitive, something permanent. They mean something dogmatic. I declare myself incapable of doing such a thing and I claim my freedom, my holy freedom, even the freedom to contradict myself, if need be. I don't know if any of what I have done or will do in the future will remain for years or centuries after I die; but I know that if you hit the water in a sea without shores, the waves go on endlessly, although they become weaker and weaker. To stir is something. If thanks to that stirring someone else comes after me who will do something more permanent, my work will last in it.
It is a work of supreme compassion to awake he who is asleep and shake he who is still; and it is a work of supreme religious piety to seek the truth of everything and discover everywhere the pain, the foolishness and the ineptitude.
Thus, my good friend from Chile now knows what he must respond to those who question him regarding my religion. Now, if they are one of those fools who believe that I harbor resentment against a community or a country after I have shaken any of its thoughtless sons with some truths, the best that he can do is not to answer them at all.
Yo, no; cuando he sentido ganas de gritar, he gritado.
Cuando he sentido un dolor, he gritado, y he gritado en público.
español al inglés: A Revival of Religions?

Traducción - inglés A Revival of Religions?
By Marià Corbí - April 16th, 2006
It is being said that religions have regained their appeal. Is it true that they are again fascinating people? In our societies we find simultaneously a clear, global and explicit rejection of religion by a wide majority of the population, and a growing interest in it. If we reflect on this contradictory attitude, we can observe two very different social phenomena, both under the term “religion”. It doesn´t seem to be a genuine revival of old beliefs and religious structures, though. It is more a completely new phenomenon: spirituality is becoming autonomic within religion.
The so-called revival of religion is a very ambiguous phenomenon.
Islam is again appealing to the masses at the clamor of “Islam is the solution”. What are Arab countries, Afghans and Pakistanis looking for when they turn to Islam as the solution to their problems? It is not so much spirituality as it is a firm cornerstone for their identity as a culture and as people, against a North that is oppressive economically, military and culturally. It is not at all clear that the various Islamic phenomena are exclusively religious in nature.
In Europe, if we are to understand religion as the submission of mind and heart to a framework of truths, beliefs and sacred principles; as the submission and affiliation to a religious organization that has absolute pretensions over the life of individuals and communities in relation to family, sexuality, health and behavior in general, then people are not interested in religion, they turn their backs on it. For younger generations, for the educated middle class and for the cultural elite, the rejection of religion in the sense that we have explained is so absolute, for the vast majority, that it is not even a problem anymore. Never before did organized religions have so little credit and cultural approval, even from an spiritual point of view.
WHAT IS FASCINATING IN EUROPE NOW, even if only in small although ever-growing circles of seekers, is a kind of spirituality free of submission to beliefs, without church affiliation, a non-religious, lay spirituality. Among these seekers there are some -a minority- who are seeking rationally; and there is a majority who are doing so by mixing the highest forms with the lowest, that which has been consecrated by millenary traditions with fringe esotericism, popular yoga or astrology. Side by side with the increase of the authentic search, the need to escape from a flat and disenchanting reality is also spreading.
Along these lines we find too an increase, specially in North and South America, of different forms of Christianity such as the Baptist and Pentecostal. In these denominations, beliefs are not important, but remain in the shadow to better emphasize the use of techniques of collective exultation to be reached through passionate and moving speeches, music and dance until they provoke something like a collective ectasis, as if it were a new form a shamanism. In North America, the new societies are experiencing constant changes and risks and this compels the individuals to live in a reality of ruthless competition and frequent moving from one place to another around the country for work. Such uprooting pushes them to seek refuge, shelter, human warmth and affection in the religious groups. This is an escape from a tough economic and social reality, an escape from social relationships that are cold, pragmatic-driven, flat and lacking in cordiality and affection. Likewise, this uprooting and the harshness of their living conditions compel many people in South America to look for the human closeness and embrace of Christian groups referred to as Evangelical. People flee from isolation and despair.
Simultaneous growth in disbelief, credulity and spirituality. In a short period of time, human life lost all of its sacred dimension and the world became disenchanted, reduced to nothing but its practical dimension in a hard economic, scientific and technological struggle. This religious groups, with their discourse and rituals, provide religious emotions and human closeness. They cast a charm on reality again.
IS THIS A REVIVAL of the interest in religion or the result of serious socio-cultural shortcomings?
Disbelief and credulity are growing in our societies. But it is of essence to point out where the disbelief is going and where the credulity. Disbelief is growing regarding organized religion and its dogmas and rules. Credulity is growing in the affective-experiential and esoteric areas, which consist more in wanting to believe and fantasize than in a firm belief that leans on a divine revelation.
Aside from all these ambiguities regarding the use of the term “religion”, there is a growth in the genuine seekers of spirituality. They are independent individuals or small groups with flexible ties. And these seekers work within a framework of globalization of the religious traditions. This does not mean, though, that they will necessarily converge in syncretisms or custom-made religions. It is a different approach to one's inner life and spirituality. This search approach is not interested in religions, but in the wealth of humanity´s spiritual traditions. These are independent seekers who are not necessarily believers, but they are interested in and respectful of the wealth of traditions.
