Cecilia Gowar Apr 16, 2009:

lard-based/butter-based

Depending on the region. In Europe, probably lard. Butter would be "mantequilla". I believe that in Latin America "manteca" can mean "butter"....
See google hits.

OK. Delighted to help. This is my favorite field.
This will depend on the masa. If it is something like "hojaldre", for pasties or pastries (como empanadas, croisanes, tartas, etc.) "pastry" is the one. I would use "wet pastry" or "moist pastry" (muy húmedo, "wet", poco húmedo, "moist").
If it is bread, then use "dough". What is the name of the recipe, or at least, what is the final product going to be?
By the way, if this were to be for a cake (bizcocho, etc.), then it is a "mix", though I think that in this case it is not a cake mix, if I am not mistaken!
Note from asker:
Thank you, very helpful! Just one more thing, is it a wet pastry as German suggests, or is it damp or humid?
