Portuguese term

arcos curtos

This is about something they call 'quintas republicanas'.

I'm not very familiar with these terms, so I thought that maybe one of you would know what they're talking about, since I don't know if these are actual arches or have a different meaning...

Thanks in advance for your help!

@ Teresa Obrigada!
Daniel Pimentel Nov 14, 2016:
@Tania Nesta monografia fala-se em "small arches" and "long historical diachrony", ver: http://www.rotadoromanico.com/vEN/Galeria/Publications/Monog...
Tania Pires (asker) Nov 14, 2016:

short activity

Dado o contexto, parece-me que a tradução correta seria algo como "revealed short activity in the diachrony of occupation (...)".

brief arcs

I would translate it literally. It is not uncommon to speak of "brief arcs" of history or in a story. The phrase is also famously used in a poem by Elizabeth Bishop "Brazil".

The link below refers to an archeology thesis in which "arc" is mentioned several times and "brief arcs" once. The thesis is hard to copy from, but it is about an ancient archeological site in the Hebrides:
