'Com a evolução da arte da guerra, a ameia torna-se mais baixa e larga, podendo receber ao centro um rasgo – a seteira – que, como o próprio nome indica, permitia o disparo com arco ou besta.'

FYI - 'Ameia' is the battlement on a castle.

I've heard the term 'besta' before, but I can't be sure whether it's also a type of arc, and whenever I look it up, only the term 'beast' appears, which doesn't sound right.
