Portuguese term

cauterização

Portuguese to English Other Cosmetics, Beauty
Please would somebody describe this process in English? It's a type of hair treatment using queratina, but I don't know the specific term for 'cauterização' and/or how the process works. Best Explanation wins.
Cheers.
Richard.

Discussion

R. Alex Jenkins (asker) Mar 3, 2006:
..much better.. That's a much better answer Isabella because your first suggestion 'ironing' refers to that odious household chore of the same name.
Isabella Becker Mar 3, 2006:
Richard, I found a better word for cauterização. "Thermal Reconditioning"

..getting warmer! I see that it's only ladies thus far who have responded to this question. I wonder why? Thanks.

Better change to "Thermal Reconditioning"

Description:

Thermal Reconditioning is an innovative new technique from Japan to make frizzy, curly or wavy hair straight while preserving the hair's health. Almost always, Thermal
Reconditioning will improve the hair's feel, softness and shine while making it completely manageable!

The Farouk Chi treatment is performed as follows:

Ø Assessing the hair type and condition.

Ø Washing the hair.

Ø Applying keratin mist and silk infusion to the hair (done by spray and running a gel-like solution through the hair).

Ø Completely drying the hair.

Ø Applying the first solution (this is to cut the hair's "Cystine Bond" - the bond that holds the curl or wave pattern).

Ø Testing to see when the bond is properly cut and is ready to rinse.

Ø Rinsing the hair for a minimum of 15 minutes and conditioning the hair.

Ø Returning to the chair and applying silk infusion .

Ø Eliminating some excess moisture in the hair and blow-drying completely.

Ø Ironing the hair in extremely small sections with a the Chi ceramic iron reaching temperatures of 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees F). This will not damage your hair.

Ø Applying a neutralizer to the hair after ironing is completed.

Ø Rinsing the hair and conditioning.

Ø Drying the hair and applying a flat iron to remove excess moisture if necessary.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The term 'Thermal Reconditioning' is exactly the right answer. Although the term 'cauterization' is technically more correct I found that Isabella's answer really helped me understand what goes on in the process. It was a dilligent correction. Cheers folks. Richard."

Cauterization

I would suggest a literal translation but the actual treatment is, I think, deep moisturizing of the scalp so that deposited proteins remain for a longer time in the hair. It appears to be used to correct the hair structure. That´s all know. Hope it helps.
