I'd suggest omitting "individual" because it doesn't mean the same thing in Portuguese. Nor does it mean their particular personal expressions or their unique expressions of speech.

There only so much you can do with this term. Although it sounds highly technical, this is exactly how I would translate it. Remember, it's the way the author expressed him/herself that you're trying to translate, not what Indians would say about the subject.
