District (Sub-)Registrar/Recorder

See the entry of District Recorder in Patrick Chaffey's NO/EN Jurid. Ordbok, albeit of crim. law - Strafferett, straffeprosess og andre termer: 'district judge in rural areas who is also a probate, bankruptcy and enforcement court judge, resp. for judicial reg. as is a notary pub.

In the UK, their functions overlap with those of Bankruptcy and Probate *Registrars* - the latter term most dictionaries seem to be unaware of. NB District Judges in Eng. & Wales civ. process used to be called County Court Registrars.

District Sub-Registrars in India are superintendent officers for births, death and marriages.
