There are two types of finance lease – “balloon” and “full-payout”. Both of them enable customers to lease a vehicle for a set period of time. Customers decide on the initial rental, how long they want to lease the vehicle for, and the annual mileage. These figures are used to calculate the total cost, which in case of a full-payout finance lease is then spread evenly over the term of the agreement
A balloon finance lease reduces the monthly payment by deferring a portion of the repayment until the end of the agreement. At the end of the agreement, customers usually have two options: enter into a secondary rental period (in case of the balloon lease this means making the balloon payment), paying an annual rental and retaining use of the vehicle, Sell the vehicle on behalf of Volkswagen Financial Services to a selected third party and receive a percentage of the sale proceeds (for customers with a full-payout lease) or, for customers with a balloon lease, use the proceeds to make the final “balloon” repayment. Depending on the market, the agreement may also include an option to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease term.
