The airway bill is an internationally standardised document, printed in English and in the language of the carrier. Unlike the bill of lading, the airway bill does not give title to the goods.

***The airway bill is not a negotiable document*** and by handing it to the airline the shipper does not lose ownership of the goods. The exporter only has to present his copy of the air waybill to the airline to exercise his 'right of disposal' to the goods. He can do this at any time and so can:

Stop the goods at any point of their journey
