English term

A round of Stolichnay please

English to Russian Other Food & Drink Common phrase used in bars or restaurants
I have no problem asking for any drink or food in a restaurant or bar in Russia, but I want to find out if there is an equivalent for the "round" in this situation:

You are sitting in a restaurant with 5 other people and you want to ask the waiter to bring a jiggle of Столичная водка to everybody at the table. I would say Столичную каждому пожалуйста или Стаканчик Столичной каждому пожалуйста, but do you use a term like "round" in this situation in Russian?

Discussion

IrinaN Feb 18, 2018:
Keep it as рюмочка anyway and they'll appreciate the joke on top of the round. A win-win all around! Good luck!
JANOS SAMU (asker) Feb 18, 2018:
That proofs my point... Thank you Irina. You see, originally I suggested стаканчик. You see, I was closer to the presumably real situation for the village of Уэлен. Видишь, моряки в Мурманске и туленебойцы в Уэлене то же самые по привычкам выпивки. Ха-ха-ха!
IrinaN Feb 18, 2018:
Of course, рюмочка вне конкуренции but I'm afraid in Ouelen you may face another problem... вряд ли там пьют рюмочками, be prepared for кружка. Just kidding! It's still рюмочка для заказа.
JANOS SAMU (asker) Feb 18, 2018:
Yes, there is a difference Thank you Irina. Good information. Yes, I am aware that I would probably ask differently for a repeated round and I was not specific enough to mention that I wanted the term for a situation when I want to introduce some kind of drink, that I prefer for the first round. I realize that in the bars in big cities the word раунд is understood, but I wanted a word that even the кабатчик in the only bar or столовая in the village of Уэлен в Чукотском автоновном округе understood. So, I prefer рюмочка.
IrinaN Feb 18, 2018:
Janos, there is a catch Today many advanced bartenders will understand if you ask literary for раунд Столичной, пожалуйста - the word раунд is widely used in Russian already in different contexts and today is not at all unknown in the bars but still, the option offered by sparta1978 is surely the best, very natural and very Russian... for the first round:-) Should you decide to go for a second round, whether it was you or the other person who ordered the first one, you can say simply "повторить для всех" или "еще раз по кругу" и добавить "от меня", if another person picked up the tab the first time. "За мой счет" будет звучать tacky. And МедведеЙ, не МедведеВ:-). Прямого эквивалента раунду в таком контексте точно нет.
JANOS SAMU (asker) Feb 16, 2018:
The stress is on the round Thank you sparta1978. You are right. Пить водку из стакана я видел только в столовой насиженной моряками в Мурманске. Рюмка или стопка наверняка лучше. However in English the word "round" indicates that everybody in the company of the person ordering the drink should get a drink. So if they are drinking пиво Три Медведя you would order with these words "всем по бутылке Три Медведя, пожалуйста". Или же "всем Трёх Медведев, пожалуйста".
sparta1978 Feb 16, 2018:
стакан столичной is quite gracious Janos. I am sure your company would appreciate ))) but a round is closest to рюмка, a shot glass.

всем по рюмочке столичной, пожалуйста.

Janos, I find your request most pleasing.

It has a lot of heart and I hope you can find a phrase you can comfortably articulate while in Russia.
