Spanish term

circuito de las participantes en el estudio

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Good evening

I'm translating titles to Informed consent forms with regards to clinical trials and I can't seem to find what 'circuito' means in this context. Here's the title:

'Procedimientos Operativos Estándares (POEs) del circuito de las participantes en el estudio.'

'Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the circuit of the study participants.'

Circuit doesn't seem right and I can't seem to find the term used anywhere in English.

Any help on this would be much appreciated :)

Arabella Itani (asker) Apr 19:
Procedure/Process Hi all, thank you so much for your input! So I requested more context and it was clarified that the document is an SOP (standard operating procedure) and describes the algorithm, process or procedure (actions from site staff) to follow participants from reception until they are selected. They suggested using procedure/process in this instance.
philgoddard Mar 22:
I think I've got it, and it doesn't mean group or cohort.
Arabella Itani (asker) Mar 22:
Thank you Lirka! Cohort could be a more fitting translation within the context of this document. I'm still not 100% that this is the most appropriate/correct translation... I'll await further suggestions. Thanks again for your input! :)
Lirka Mar 22:
I'd say "cohort" in clinical trial context HTH
Arabella Itani (asker) Mar 21:
That would make sense! I'll await some more suggestions just to be sure. Thanks so much for the speedy reply!
philgoddard Mar 21:
Group?

rotating cohort of study participants

Cohort had, pace Lirka, also been my first thought, circuito connoting to me a 'rotational' arrangement, as in company directors retiring by 'rotation'.
Example sentence:

Do you need to consider scheduling rotating cohorts?

Cohort Rotation Schedule by School Year.

Note from asker:
Hi Adrian, I think you've hit the nail on the head! Thank you so much :)
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : As is so often the case, your references don't support your answer. The responses to the previous question don't say anything about rotating cohorts.

disagree liz askew : no mention of "rotating cohort" in the source. You are adding another meaning to the translation and it is incorrect.

So 'timeline' is another option.

The answer to the previous question, cited by Adrian, mentions 'journey' - though in that case it's the drug rather than the patient.
Peer comment(s):

neutral liz askew : participants' journey would be more apt

They're patients receiving treatment. Participants is not 'more apt', it's just a synonym.

Even if it sound off you are correct. Circuit is a common word used in research. I am a research coordinator and I can assure you that you are on the right track.
Note from asker:
Thanks so much Michelle! I received a bit more background and they suggested Procedure/Process (please see my comment at the top of this thread) But it is good to know that 'circuit' is acceptable terminology in the field! Thanks again :)
