Portuguese term

convalidado ou transcrito

Portuguese to English Other Law (general) Petition for a divorce
Part of a petition for a divorce:

IMPORTANTE CONSIGNAR TAMBÉM, que o casamento no Brasil, não foi convalidado ou transcrito nos Estados Unidos.

"Convalidado" seems to be pretty straightforward (i.e. "validated"). Not sure that "transcribed" would be a good match for "transcrito", though.

transcribe:
- put (thoughts, speech, or data) into written or printed form. (Note: The marriage had already put into written form in Brazil via a marriage certificate.)
- transliterate (foreign characters) or write or type out (shorthand, notes, or other abbreviated forms) into ordinary characters or full sentences. (Oxford Langs. Dictionary)

Perhaps "recorded" or "registered"? However, throwing in a curve:

"In the United States, there isn't a National Registry or a formal process for registering foreign marriages." (ImmigrationForCouples.com)

If there isn't a formal process to register a foreign marriage, what would the right word be? Could the divorce lawyer be misinformed?

Please provide at least one source of reference along with your answer.

Yes, the dictionaries say 'transcribe', but that's not correct in your context. I haven't given a reference because you've already provided one: 'process for registering foreign marriages'.

If there's no national US system for recording foreign marriages, theirs can't be registered nationally, though it would be recognized by a state. There is no contradiction.

Note from asker:
Thank you.
Indeed, there's no contradiction. Here in Arizona there are no registrations of foreign marriages, either.
