Estoy traduciendo un curso de People, Technology and the Future of Mobility. Estoy traduciendo una entrevista que habla sobre los ataques de ransomware en vehículos autónomos. Mi duda es cómo traducir ransom y ransoming en este contexto, ya que deduzco que no se debería traducir como "rescate" ya que se hace referencia a un programa malicioso.
Aquí le dejo un poco de contexto:
I've heard anecdotally of at least one vehicle that has been hit by a ransomware attack and at the time this was quite a while ago. Bitcoin wasn't worth as much as it is today, even with Bitcoin collapsing around us, so the ransom was pretty minimal. But if you're literally ransoming a vehicle for the equivalence of the new vehicle, that would truly put a lot of people in a bad position. I can definitely see that. Are there safeguards that could be put into place either from a regulatory perspective, or from a consumer behavior perspective? I would say yes and yes, and let's start because it really is a multilayered question.

En el contexto , para ransom yo usaría rescate, para ransoming yo usaría secuestro.
Ransomware lo puedes dejar así, en cursivas (es un término que se usa en español de la misma forma que se usa software, hardware); en Wikipedia dicen que en español es secuestro de datos.

I think the original text ("But if you're literally ransoming a vehicle for the equivalence of the new vehicle") is worded imprecisely. My impression is that it means "if the price of the ransom you're paying is literally the equivalent of a new car".
My English-to-Spanish translation isn't great, but here goes:
"Bitcoin no valía tanto como hoy en día, aun con su caida de valor que vemos a diario, por lo que el precio del rescate fue bastante mínimo. Pero si el precio que estén pidiendo como rescate por un vehículo fuera literalmente del mismo valor que el vehículo nuevo…"
My English-to-Spanish translation isn't great, but here goes:
"Bitcoin no valía tanto como hoy en día, aun con su caida de valor que vemos a diario, por lo que el precio del rescate fue bastante mínimo. Pero si el precio que estén pidiendo como rescate por un vehículo fuera literalmente del mismo valor que el vehículo nuevo…"
