missing work/ unpassed classes/ unpassed exams/ failed exams Explanation: I believe it's about academic debt. In universities, for example, you can continue studying your next semester without having passed an exam or a subject. En gros: you're allowed to study your next semester, but during that said semester you must pass the exam you haven't passed and etc. |

incomplete course requirements Explanation: Or "course requirements not yet met". See Samuël's helpful reference in the discussion box. We don't say "debt" in English as far as I'm aware.
