auto de diseño

Spanish to English Art/Literary Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
this text describes the cultural significance of the Renault 12 in Buenos Aires:

car with style

After thinking about it for a while (first I thought about translating it as a "designer" car but that doesn't fit the original context, then I thought about using an adjective to describe its design, such as "strong design", but that's not being faithful to the original), I would go with "car with style", AS PART OF THE FOLLOWING:
A car with style but no glamour, (good-looking but modest, eye-catching but restrained)

I like the juxtaposition of style/glamour, I think it works well. Rest of sentence in parenthesis is just a suggestion, but I also think it works well to describe the car of the middle class. "Glamor" if you're going for US English.

Just a suggestion. Good luck!
