Spanish to English Science Environment & Ecology
This is a term defined in the Costa Rican Wildlife Conservation Law, and while I understand perfectly well what it means (process whereby a wild animal is removed from its natural environment to keep as a pet), I cannot come up with an equivalent English term... Help?

I've never thought about what this would be in English and I've never met the term I'm proposing, but since "domestication" won't do (it's must too broad), I don't think there's another one-word equivalent, and actually "petification", though not exactly common, seems to be well enough established to be usable.

Hi, yes, I saw a page on that (I don't know how widely it's used), and I've also seen it applied to children (the latter is also true of mascotización, actually), but hopefully the context will make it clear what sort of "pets" we're talking about!

Well, this is probably the best approximation of what I am looking for. Unfortunately, the term seems to also be used for a certain form of S&M is where the dominant partner the other partner live naked as an obedient pet to him/her... but, I guess the concept is the same, right? I mean, a human pet is also sort of an exotic pet, no?

No, it doesn't; nor, for that matter does mascotización, which the Spanish native speakers I live with have never heard or seen. It's a very specialised concept and an accurate term for it is unlikely to have much currency.

pet-keeping

"Pet-keeping" is how you would call this. The Spanish word is probably a neologism.

I'm not sure this quite captures it. According to the PETA website, pet keeping is the breeding of animals (in general) to be kept and regarded as “pets”. However, what I'm talking about here is specifically defined as hunting/extracting animals from their wild environment to then be sold/kept as exotic pets.... any other ideas?

I'm afraid this does not convey the specific meaning I'm looking for. mascotización is specifically referred to capturing wildlife from their natural environment to keep them as pets (think "exotic" pets, such as tigers, monkeys, etc.). Domestication is "Domesticación", and that's not what we're talking about here
