If they cut and pasted text from a real company called Eska Graphic Board, then surely the translation has to be graphic board? If Eska is a world leader in this product, surely they would know what it was called in English? I think you're making things overly complicated :-)
Evgeny Artemov (X) Sep 17, 2014:
cardboard for graphic/printing applications.
Michael Beijer (asker) Sep 17, 2014:
Hi Evgeny, Yeah, I was wondering about that, but that kind of sounds like the cardboard itself is visual, or drawn, if you see what I mean.

Also, I tend to think of ‘de grafische industrie’ as ‘the printing industry’, rather than the graphics industry, so I am not entirely sure about translating ‘grafisch’ using a word in the graphic family, so to speak.
Evgeny Artemov (X) Sep 17, 2014:
What about "graphic cardboard" then? ,
Michael Beijer (asker) Sep 17, 2014:
My text isn't about Eska, or Eska Graphic Board. The author just copy/pasted that into their text. It's actually about an invented company (which they named sth altogether different) and is in a document training future managers how to act in certain scenarios. Role playing etc.

Eska is also a Dutch company, as are most of the refs I can find online calling it ‘graphic board’, hence my question.

I am wondering if it refers to a specific type, or grade of paper. I am just calling it ‘cardboard for the printing industry’ for the time being.

See e.g.:

(http://www.igepa.be/nl/producten/grafisch-karton )

The company is actually called Eska Graphic Board, which kind of gives it away...

what has my own research dug up? ‘graphic board’ (see e.g. http://anyterm.info/eur lex/index.php?beseda=grafisch karton...

board

Term is universally used in the printing industry, as noted from personal experience in advertising agencies in various English-speaking countries over a period of 25 years.
Note: 'Graphic board' seems logical but is (inter alia) a Dutch brand and company name and derives from literal translation of the Dutch term.
Example sentence:

At Innventia, paper, board, ink and printing press producers can come together with converters and printers within the context of our printed communication research projects. http://www.innventia.com/en/Our-Expertise/Printing-on-packaging-and-paper-/

Peer comment(s):

disagree Richard Purdom : The rest of the sentence doesn't mention printing, so how is the reader supposed to gues the context?

The context says it's about a board manufacturer. Almost all board is printed and/or coated. The manufacturer's clients would be printers (and their clients).
