Dear ProZ members,
I have a question about the use of the 黙る verb. I know it generally means "to remain silent", "to say nothing".
In a cartoon, a man is brought in the realm of the death, where dead people just walk in a zombie-like condition until they fall in a big hole leading them to hell.
The man is frightened and tries to ask them why they are so passive in accepting their fate.
どうしてお前ら黙って落ちていくんだよ
(Why do you just fall in there without saying anything?)
Interpreting 黙って as "without saying anything" works fine in the context, since the dead people actually say no word, but I was wondering if it could have a more general meaning, something like "Why do you just fall in there without doing anything to save yourself?".
What do you think? Is this possible?
Thank you!

so ready
Why are you so ready to fall in?
Of course 黙る means to remain silent but used as an adverb 黙って it can be understood as "without complaining" or "without putting up a fight".

pathetic/resigned
There is an element of contempt as well as pity towards the addressee's resigned state.
Why are you so pathetic and just waiting to fall in?
