German term

angedeuteter Keilwirbel

German to English Medical Medical (general) bones
this is in a list of vertebra, such as Fischwirbel, Keilwirbel, Plattwirbel

it seems to be "suggestive" or slightly" wedge-shaped - but there must be a proper anatomical term for this

Discussion

David Tracey, PhD Aug 29, 2011:
Some vertebral bodies are normally slightly wedge-shaped, though I guess that in the limited context the wedge shape is abnormal.

agree casper (X) : That's it. The right term, i.e., wedging, just kept eluding me for some reason.

neutral Betty Cooper (X) : The entire collocation "slight wedge shaped vertebra" doesn't sound right to my English ears. For that matter, even 'slightly wedge-shaped vertebra' doesn't. There must be better way of saying it, but I can't seem to put my finger on it right now.

The term doesn't seem to be used with an appropriate adjective at all...
neutral Lirka : with Betty

slight wedge-shaped deformation of the vertebral body

Der Begriff Keilwirbel besagt, dass ein Wirbel von der normalen Form abweicht.

That is why I have included 'deformation' in the rendering I have suggested.
