Translating Diagnostic Imaging. Part 4.
Course summary
Description In Part 4 of the 'Diagnostic Imaging' series, we will take a look at nuclear medicine in the context of imaging, in which radioactive substances are used to diagnose and treat disease. We will focus on single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scans, which are the two most common imaging modalities in nuclear medicine. We will explore how imaging using radiopharmaceuticals that are taken internally (intravenously or orally) differs from radiographs (from Part 1 of the Webinar series), in which external radiation is passed through the body to form an image. Finally, we will examine how new, hybrid scanning techniques, such as SPECT/CT and PET/CT, can be used to create superimposed images. The Webinar will combine an explanation of the medical concepts with terminology and real-life translation examples to address the main challenges of these reports. At the end of this session, participants will be able:
Target audience Translators already specialising in medical translation. Translators considering crossing exploring a more specialised and technical area of medical translation. Translators with a healthcare background wishing to improve their source-target terminology skills. Learning objectives At the end of this session, participants will be able: - To define and understand the essential concepts nuclear medicine. - To understand the essential terminology necessary to read and translate nuclear medicine imaging reports. - To identify the main terminological challenges in nuclear medicine and hybrid scanning. - To identify multilingual resources for nuclear medicine terminology.
