Canoe trip May 13, 2008

Sounds like fun! But I'd need someone to pair up with me, I haven't handled a canoe in many many years!

I think I replied in wrong box, so ignore any duplication. I have never canoed unless a half hour or so as a kid on Regents Park lake counts. I' a fairly good swimmer. Do you take novices? You only mention canoeing DOWN river, does that mean one walks back?

Canoe May 14, 2008

Bonjour à tous,
Rod, je suis partante pour la le canoë mais je voulais savoir s'il fallait être sportif pour ce genre d'activité car la durée de la ''ballade'' (2h00 - 2h30) me fait un peu peur...

Toujours canoë May 14, 2008

J'ai aussi des questions : combien de personnes par canoë, et quid des enfants ? Mon aîné (14 ans) fait du canoë, pas de soucis, mais pas le cadet (10 ans).

Not fro me sadly, as a chronic aquaphobic I would be a liability. I hope the sun shines and you have a great time.

canoë May 14, 2008

Unfortunately I can't go on the canoe trip as I was planning to leave the pow wow around 4 - 4.30 pm. I have to go back to my kids not too late.

It seems... May 14, 2008

... I spoke in riddles:

The canoe trip would be in the afternoon of the powwow (we’ve done this before, at the Schwerin powwow in 2004).

Our neighbours up the hill, who organise these canoe trips, would pick us up from La Brunié, drive us (and the boats) to Vielmur, pick us up and the boats out of the water at Serviès and bring us back to LB.

That’s why it takes 2 – 2½ hours. The canoes are new and unsinkable and called by an English name like “sit-ons” which I promptly forgot, having been told they were neither kayaks nor Canadians.

The Agout is quite fast-flowing, so I suppose it won’t be too “sportif” for fat 64-year-olds (the rest of you should be ok)!

There is absolutely no reason why those not wishing to canoe shouldn’t stay at La Brunié and enjoy the afternoon, provided you don’t set fire to the place, and someone waits until we get back.

But please let us know – a simple “yea” or nay” is more than enough for me, a bear of Very Small Brain – how many of you will be canoeing.

Rod
P.S. Leïla, Tom, Antonia: glad to see you’ve signed up!

Murphy's law... May 14, 2008

...also states that you always think of something else seconds after you hit the "post" button:
the canoes are for two (it's EUR 25 per boat, but EUR 15 if you insist on sitting alone!), so it'd be fun to double up, would'n it?
@Leïla: if Kevin, Matthias and Quentin are all coming, you could do two per boat.
Rod
P.S. the other seat in my canoe is already booked...

Count me in. David would like to join in, but might not be able to for health reasons. Also he can't swim - I would have thought this was an activity for swimmers only?

Attention! début plus tôt! / Achtung! Fängt früher an! May 14, 2008

thank you, Sabine, for your brilliant suggestion: I have changed the headline and we shall be expecting you from 11 a.m. onwards - that way we have at least four hours before the canoe trip starts.
P.S. for long-distance travellers: come when you can!
