@ George OK :-)
George Rabel Feb 12, 2013:
Re: Juvera's comment I agree that most fashion tends to be international. It is also "contemporary" to the specific period. I amended my suggestion after Irene added more clarification, but for some reason it did not get posted.
My amended suggestion was something like this:
In the 1950s, when fashion trends were more easily forecast...
Cheers!

...during the heyday of the 1950s.... when contemporary fashion was MOST INSPIRING....

I cannot agree to have "contemporary" changed to "international".
Fashion tends to be international, and "during the heyday of international fashion" sounds if fashion is dying a slow death ever since, which is obviously not the case.
Stephanie Ezrol Feb 12, 2013:
unless the meaning is that the success of contemporary fashion was heralded, if the meaning is as the asked says, that there were"years of big predictions for contemporary fashion" or forcasts -- then the predictions or forecase were for the success of a type of fashion called "contemporary"
Veronika McLaren Feb 11, 2013:
To herald something generally means to announce or introduce it, but here it seems more like an enthusiastic appreciation or praise.

Note from asker:
thanks, I think the meaning is that during those years contemporary fashion was "forecasted"
during the 1950s, years of big predictions for contemporary fashion. better? thanks

agree Jack Doughty : There shouldn't be an apostrophe in 1950s.

thank you, Jack. You are absolutely correct.
agree Veronika McLaren : Yes, and 1950s - but is contemporary necessarily international?

Thanks, Veronica. I get your point. I did think about the word before posting my suggestion, but I still believe "international" is appropriate in this context.

does sound horrible*

*One interpretation: "In the 1950s, when interest in contemporary was at its height" (Mind you, this statement seems to be a very personal opinion. I've only tried to improve the English.)
