documentation applying to several variants

"Systems" often have variants (mobile telephones, telephone exchanges, washing machines, printers ...) and the manufacturers produce documentation that applies to all of them. Sometimes this is made specific by resellers to apply to a particular version, or simply to change the name to the branded version.

agree Ken Cox : could also be the documentation for the base portion of the system (common to all variants)

Good point.
agree Alexander Demyanov : w/Kenneth on "all variants", but disagree with "the base portion" part. I've seen more generic documentation describing all features found in all variants, usually with notes like "applies to XXX version", etc.
