English term

adjustment slop

English Art/Literary Telecom(munications)
It appears in the following sentence:
For each 15-minute bucket (900 seconds), Valid Seconds should be 900 (give or take some adjustment slop), and for the Near End, it always will be 900
Change log

Jul 12, 2005 21:41: Arkadiusz Suchański changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): ENGSOL, marybro, Arkadiusz Suchański

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

some +/- probably fractions of seconds

what they are saying is that the 15-min bucket with not be EXACTLY 900 seconds except for this Near End which will be EXACTLY 900 seconds.

It may be that some task took a bit longer than its allotment in the bucket, and then the bucket will be longer than 900 seconds. This may be made up in the next bucket which would be correspondingly shorter.

It may only be fractions of a second, or it may be a few seconds, but is will not be a large percentage of the 900 for sure.

and I really like the fact that Telecomm is becoming Art/Literary!
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : slop means slack or looseness

agree Can Altinbay : I don't see how it is becoming art or literary. Writing has been atrocious in the field since the beginning.

adjustment overflow

To spill over; overflow.

neutral Tony M : Not necessarily overflow, just some flexibility...
