English term

Olga Arsamquk

English Other Names (personal, company) Name
I need to know how to pronounce the name of this Alaskan Orthodox Saint. 'Olga' is fine, but 'Arsamquk' is a problem. Any attempts at transcription/transliteration would be much appreciated! The galling thing is that she is a Russian Orthodox saint and is called 'matushka' etc., but her name must be Eskimo and I need to give it in Russian and I don't know how. I will post this question in the English-Russian pair as well in case somebody has run accross her name in Russian.

Here is a reference in case it helps: http://rejoyse.com/BlsdOlgaHome.html (homepage)

... and the name 'Arsamquk' is mentioned here: http://rejoyse.com/HelperInRestoring.html

Inuit pronunciation (preferred name for that people amongst themselves)

references online suggest that the 'q' is likely to be a sound approximately similar to a 'k', (although examples I have found have the 'q' at the end of the word - so this isn't totally conclusive, it seems likely as nothing is mentioned about the 'u' being a modifier (or accompanying the 'q' in some other way, eg: as in English)

a - English 'man'
u- Eng. 'too' or 'new'

hence: \"a(as in: man)r-sa(as in: man)m-koo(as in: too)k\" (English approximation)

\"Àðñàìêóê\" as close as it can be approximated to the English which is approximating to the Inuit.... :-)
