English term

post

English Medical Medical (general) epidemic of a viral disease
quotes from a conversation: (said by a doctor)

"We'll need a post"
"The other patient died while I was in post"

Does it have a meaning related to autopsy?

Discussion

R.S. (asker) Jan 23, 2013:
context my question about autopsy is the context; "post mortem" fits the context perfectly
katsy Jan 22, 2013:
Agree with BD
B D Finch Jan 22, 2013:
Context Unless you give some context for the first quote, it is impossible to give you a sensible answer. In the second one, "in post" means "employed in that position/job". In the first quote, the word "post" could either mean creation of a job/position on the staff in order to employ somebody or might be shorthand for a post mortem.

Yes, it is actually 'autopsy' shortened from ' post mortem'

disagree B D Finch : It certainly doesn't mean that in the second quote and without further context the first quote could have a number of meanings, including the one you suggest.

Yes, Barbara and Katsy! You may be right, I may be wrong. We still need further context. Reading the discussion again, semantic range widens to include: "We'll need a new job, another patient died while I was in doctor's station". Bien cordialement
