Sorry the full sentence should have been: Copyleft is a general method for making a program or other work free, and requiring all modified and extended versions of the program to be free as well. That is what I actually wanted to quote. Otherwise I should not have quoted the source which I have quoted in all the three definitions.

: The explanation here is largely incorrect (eg: 'open source' cannot be equated, even approximately, to 'free software') and is more confusing than the text in asker's question.
