I'm looking for a synonym for "barely hanging on", "getting by", "subsisting" within the context of a description for a monthly publication. The term should be an adjective describing "monthly" (publication). See below:
"I transformed this publication from a (...) monthly to a prosperous weekly that, when I left in 1987, had eight employees and sales reaching a half million dollars."
