intuitive psychiatry

English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
In Denver, it was back to reality, where I searched for a purpose to my life. That was particularly true at the hospital. I was a psychiatrist, but regular psychiatry was definitely not for me. I also tried working with troubled adults and children. But what ended up capturing my interest was the type of intuitive psychiatry I had practiced on schizophrenics at Manhattan State Hospital, a nontraditional one-on-one type of interaction, rather than medication and group sessions. I talked about it with my university colleagues, but none of them offered any encouragement.

Instinct and Intuition, as I define it, is this:

• Instinct is our innate inclination toward a particular behavior (as opposed to a learned response).
• A gut feeling—or a hunch—is a sensation that appears quickly in consciousness (noticeable enough to be acted on if one chooses to) without us being fully aware of the underlying reasons for its occurrence.
• Intuition is a process that gives us the ability to know something directly without analytic reasoning, bridging the gap between the conscious and nonconscious parts of our mind, and also between instinct and reason.

agree B D Finch : In this case, the writer is a psychiatrist, so his/her intuition would be grounded in study and practice of psychiatry, making it a bit more reliable than the same approach taken by an untrained person.
