Discussion

Travelin Ann Mar 3, 2011:
I think it is important to remember that this is for schools - which don't get the top-of-the-line equipment, as a general rule.
Ambrose Li Mar 3, 2011:
Unless they are talking about photocopiers that double as printers and which take a whole day to install, if they really can’t fix it the next day they could always just loan you a new printer until the broken one is fixed. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to take it literally.
Travelin Ann Mar 3, 2011:
A quick google shows many services - printers, HVAC and others - with same or next-day repair. I've seen many service contracts that offer repair within 24 hours. I think it is literal.
David Koppel (asker) Mar 3, 2011:
Thanks. Do you think the meaning is very literal: "repair by the end of next day" (and not just "urgent repair" in a more general sense)? Or could it be both?

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for the replies. Basically, they all seem to be completely correct. There has been a little doubt whether "next day" should be interpreted very literally as "by the end of the next day". According to the comments, this should be the case. So I have chosen this reply which seems to specify the literal interpretation most precisely. "
