"The terms Class 1 and Type B are defined in IEC 601-1 (the standard for electrical medical equipment).
Type B equipment CALLS FOR a particular degree of protection against electric shock."
Description of an electronic device (supplied from mains) for medical applications. Made in UK.
IMO in this case: calls for ... = is fitted with... (means of a particular degree for protection against electric shock.)

What you're saying isn't exactly right. Basically, "calls for" means that somewhere(probably in this IEC 601-1) there is a requirement that Type B equipment must have a particular degree of protection.

: Good explanation; in other words, it can't be classified as Type B if it doesn't meet this requirement.

Webster says: call for = to require as necessary or appropriate (the job calls for typing skills).
