Segundo a Wikipedia:

"Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) is a data structure provided by a digital display to describe its capabilities to a video source (e.g. graphics card or set-top box)."

Trata-se de um componente de hardware, ou seja, fisicamente presente no dispositivo.

Analisando a figura da página 7 desse guia relacionado ao esquema de funcionamento do EDID e vendo que o acrônimo H/W refere-se, entre outras possibilidades, ao termo "Hardware" (assim como S/W corresponde à software), fica clara a correspondência, no contexto informado, ao termo "hardware".
