Discussion

Inter-Tra Sep 18, 2015:
It may also mean DD = DIGITAL DATA The DD stands for Digital Data. New licenses are done with digital imagery with your picture and signature along with the other information on the license. It is then digitally transposed to you license. The DD is a reference number to recover your driver`s license information in the database. This makes it harder to be copied or changed due to the original image being able to be pulle up from the database.

@ Kathi
Thanks for the explanation.
Kathi Stock Feb 8, 2013:
Document Discriminator DD/Ref = Document Discriminator, it`s a number independent of the license number that permit to identify where the card was issued for what purpose etc. it`s a way to identify the card itself among other license you had (identifying a lost license from the current one for instance).

Hi David, I am a sworn translator from Poland and I translate from Polish into English and from English into Polish, so from time to time I ask questions mainly to my Polish colleagues (monolingual questions).I look forward to hearing from you soon and hope that the friend from Canada will find enoung time to help me. ;)
David Moore (X) Nov 18, 2008:
Hi Jolo: you ask an incredible number of questions for one who appears only to work in English - so do we assume you are not a translator? Your profile gives no location either; anyway, when our colleagues in Canada are awake one of them will surely help.

Deceased Donor Just a very wild guess..

reference number

I called a Service Ontario number to speak to someone who issues the licences, and amusingly, they didn't know what it stood for either. They suggested that it was simply a reference number unique to each licence (apparently it is also printed elsewhere on the card) but different from the actual licence number.

I would suggest using either the generic phrase "Reference number" or maintaining the abbreviation as is, if possible.

Note from asker:
I'm very grateful for the effort you made to check that misterious abbreviation. Thanks.
Peer comment(s):

agree Ken Cox : nice work. I'm still curious what the English abbreviation stands for (maybe pure internal jargon...)

Me too. We don't have that abbrev. on Alberta licences, though there are a a couple of numbers that are not the actual licence number. Must be internal jargon.

Designate a Driver (No.)

Peer comment(s):

neutral Ken Cox : unlikely IMO\\yeah, there seems to be nothing useful available on the Web. I was thinking 'driver data', but that doesn't yield anything useful. Maybe it's a closely kept secret ;-)

I know, Thank you, but I just try to help, as there are many people seeking the answer online without the answer....
