PLANO, TEXAS -- JCPenney's first positive comparable store sales gain in five years proves the retailer's turnaround strategy under a centralized organization is finally starting to take shape, according to ceo Allen Questrom.
Questrom told shareholders at the company's annual meeting May 17 that while four years remain in the turnaround plan, progress is apparent. Total sales in department stores grew 1.5% to $14.8 billion last year, with comps rising 3.3%.
