The time the light needs to cross a certain distance. Does anyone know a German expression? I can only find the English phrase used in German.

Gebräuchlicher als "Lichtlaufzeit" scheint mir dann noch "Laufzeit des Lichts" zu sein. Übrigens: Bitte immer mindestens 24 Stunden mit dem Schließen der Frage warten!

Nein, Beate, die Definition passt nicht auf die Lichtgeschwindigkeit: Die ist nämlich, wie der Name schon sagt, eine Geschwindigkeit, während "light-crossing time" eine Zeit ist.

Laufzeit

The German word that comes most closely would imho be "Laufzeit". This expression doesn't include the reference to light though, so you might have to do some rewording unless the context is clear anyway.
