Denial of Death
All of us, and all of our loved ones, will vanish from the world literally (our sentience extinguished for eternity) and probably figuratively as well, since the likelihood that anyone will be remembered, beyond, say, their grandchildren, is extremely improbable.
And even with regard to that bit of fake ‘immortality’—being recognized for having existed at some point in the intangible past, by grandchildren—one might ask: how could that constitute adequate satisfaction for the insatiable vanities of human life?
And should one of us, against all odds, inherit a century or two of influence or significance while our bodies and our minds are long decomposed and consumed by insects—what will that matter, since all those we posthumously affect, like ourselves, are destined for oblivion, not just that of the --- mortal coil---, but also that forecast by astronomers for the ---cosmic coil---, when our sun is extinguished, and nothing remains of any person or place or work of art or anything else in which creatures like us are emotionally invested.

Zirkel der Sterblichen/kosmischen Zirkels
Wörtliche Übersetzung von "coil" erscheint zu plump. "Irdische Verstrickung" etwas zu frei.
