English term

boost the momentum towards a low-growth world

English to German Bus/Financial Economics
The recent reversal of globalisation is likely to boost the momentum towards a low-growth world.

@Elke You're welcome and thank you! I have entered it and even included some additional information because as I understand it, "low-growth world" may or may not refer to global - it simply depends on which news item you're reading.
Elke Reichel (asker) Sep 14, 2014:
Including "likely" this time...

A low-growth world is a world in which low growth is normal. It's something completely different from a simple "bump" in the world's economic growth.
Björn Vrooman Sep 13, 2014:
continued... Basically: momentum = trend

It's not about "Verlangsamung" - that's a process! It's about us "getting stuck" in a world that will most likely continue to show low growth rates for years.

Momentum was built up and now, the situation is being exacerbated (boost).

Something along the lines of:

Warning: I haven't included the "likely" yet, but it's late :)
Björn Vrooman Sep 13, 2014:
@Elke and Jacek momentum:
2: strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events

Examples:
- The company has had a successful year and hopes to maintain its momentum by introducing new products.
- The movie loses momentum toward the end.

In other words:
"The reversal of globalisation we have seen recently is likely to head us further towards a low-growth world. This is particularly true in the case of the sanctions between Europe and Russia which retain their potential to escalate. Pressure is above all on European stocks, global companies with European and Russian exposure and those companies which have benefited from the ‘Draghi put’ effect. This may sound alarmist, but I think it’s time to take a more defensive equity position."

"We are stuck in a low-demand, low-growth world.

[...]U.S. policymakers face two main challenges: first, how to put the U.S. economy on a robust and sustained growth path of 3 percent to 4 percent per year and second, how to stabilize the globalization process."

"Now some economists are suggesting that the growth years before the crisis were a blip rather than a trend, and that the rich economies will have to learn how to live in a world of low growth. They may be wrong; pessimism is also a feature of recessions. But what if they are not? It would mean a fundamental shift in the way that companies do business in the richer world. In this Future Perspective, we examine the arguments and outline the ways in which businesses need to change their thinking if they are to succeed in a low-growth world."

"Low-growth world" needs to be treated with caution: It may or may not refer to the entire global activity - it may just be used to introduce a story about one country's low GDP.

It also may just mean the Western World (investment strategies) and exclude the developing countries. In this case, "weltweit" has to be omitted and replaced by something such as "geringen Wachstumsraten in den Industriestaaten". That depends on the context (think world = environment).

It's also not "Verlangsamung" because -ung would refer to growth as representing the process. Here, it means that we are on our way to getting stuck in a world of low growth rates (one source indicates that the threshold is at 3% global GDP). The (global) economy has already been slowing down: Now, the reversal of globalization may exacerbate the situation.

Considering the above, I suggest plural (Wachstumsraten) and momentum = trend (momentum as having initiated a process in favor of something).

The entire sentence could read:

I wrote -gedanken because the idea is what counts, and that's what people fear is going to happen between certain states on the global stage: Cut off ties to old trade partners, say no to globalization, and focus on commercial activities among groups of states, may they have something called Union or Free Trade in their name(s).

But, of course, you can use some other word as well.
