Compounds of the present invention can be prepared according to the methods described in Schemes 1-3. One method for the incorporation of potential linking groups onto cholic acid intermediates is described in Scheme 1. Cholic acid methyl ester is selectively activated at the ***3-position***, for example through treatment with a sulfonyl halide or the like. The activated ***3-alcohol*** is displaced with ethylene glycol, and the resultant alcohol is activated as a leaving group to provide intermediate Z, for example through conversion to a halide, sulfonate, and the like.
Leider war ich in Chemie eine totale Niete. Ich weiß nicht, ob das "3er Position" und "3er Alkohol" oder "dritter Alkohol" sein soll, oder eventuell ganz etwas anderes. Ich hoffe, einer von Euch war gut in Chemie! Danke!

Die korrektere Bezeichnung für 3-position wäre hier 3-Stellung. Beim Alkohol ist's so wie meine Vorrednerin schon sagte, es ist einfach ein 3-Alkohol. Die Übersetzung sollte dann so lauten:

Ich war in Chemie ganz gut, aber das liegt schon fast 30 Jahre zurück... Dennoch bin ich ziemlich sicher, dass der Text die Position der "OH"-Gruppe der für Alkohole charakteristischen C-O-H Bindungen meint:
