cognitive functions

Cognition refers to a range of high-level brain functions, including the ability to learn and remember information: organize, plan, and problem-solve. The basic process involved in cognition is the ability to capture and understand stimuli from the environment, in other words, such stimuli need to make an impact or imprint on the consciousness.

In English, the term "imprinting" when used in psychology, has been hijacked by the Aritificial intelligence branch of information technology. As a result, although in its pure meaning "imprinting" could be an appropriate translation, you will not find the term "imprinting" used very much in the English language medical literature on Parkinsonian symptoms.

neutral vic voskuil : valid point, but inprenting is one cognitive function (as is e.g. awareness or memory), therefore imo too general a translation
