Good morning. I suggested 'melt volume' with a very low degree of certainty. My suggestion was more so intended for further research, otherwise I would have submitted it as an answer.

I'm not sure but 'melt volume' might fit the bill. Also, I would be inclined to use 'crack(s)' instead of 'tear(s)' and 'transition zone' instead of 'working zone'. There are lots of welding reference sites which may lead you to the right answer.

English term? So could one then translate 'neersmelt' as the 'melt'?

1. Crater tears: straight-line, cross and star-shaped tear.
2. Cross tears in the melt
3. Cross tears in the base material, working zone

2. Dwarsscheuren in de neersmelt
