Dutch term

lantaarn en steekasverbinding

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
De pompen zijn compact gebouwd door blokbouwuitvoering, waarbij pomp en aandrijving
via een lantaarn en steekasverbinding één geheel vormen.

Carla Vermeulen Jan 18, 2017:
Thanks again, Kitty. I'm new to ProZ and still learning how it all works. ;-)
Kitty Brussaard Jan 18, 2017:
@Carla You're welcome :-). Seepex seems to be an authority in this field. Why don't you post it as an answer so it can be added to the glossary (if selected)? Thanks!
Carla Vermeulen Jan 18, 2017:
Thanks, Kitty, I was looking for an English version. The Google translation of the Seepex brochure gave 'lantern' and 'shaft connection', but the 'plug-in' of the English version is, of course, much better, adding the 'steek' part of the 'steekas'.
The source text is about pumps, as is the Seepex brochure, so I would say we have 'Bingo'!
Kitty Brussaard Jan 18, 2017:
Agree with Carla that the 'lantaarn' and 'steekasverbinding' are two separate things. It also seems that Carla's 'shaft connection' comes very close.

Have a look at the English version of the same brochure (for Seepex's 'Product group N') at http://www.seepex.com/en/nc/service/downloads/. In the English version the 'steekasverbinding' is called a 'plug-in shaft connection' (and the 'lantaarn' is referred to as 'lantern').
Carla Vermeulen Jan 18, 2017:
a lantern and a shaft connection From: http://www.inventflow.nl/upload/Seepex_N.pdf
Perhaps: a lantern and a shaft connection.

The 'lantern' and the 'shaft connection' are separate things, as you can see in the diagram.

If you are still not completely sure, you could request the client to provide you with similar texts in English. I often do that and clients are very happy to do this.
Lianne van de Ven Jan 18, 2017:
Spelling? Type verbinding? Mogelijk bedoelen ze lantaarn- en steekasverbinding? Of lantaarnverbinding, een type verbinding, dus? http://www.thornlighting.nl/nl-nl/producten/buitenverlichtin...

agree Kitty Brussaard

disagree Peter Leeflang : Except for Seepex (a non English German company) the plug-in shaft term used is unusual. It is too generic. Stub shaft is more precise.

lantern (piece) and stub shaft coupling

Bij hydraulische systemen geldt:

1) lantaarn(stuk)=lantern (piece/coupler)

By the way, you can even leave out "coupling" stub shaft should be enough.
