Normally 'naar zijn hand zetten' has a somewhat negative connotation, ie manipulating st/so to do st. (http://www.woorden.org/spreekwoord.php?woord=iemand naar zij...
I don't think that's meant here so we do no need a bit more context to figure out the right meaning.
