Discussion

Bryan Crumpler May 3, 2010:
vervolg... so... as an example: "bij het oplopen van [ziekte] is er sprake van ... invaliditeit van 27% gehele mens" would be referring to the fact that experts might have commonly observed that 27% of one's complete motor and mental capacity is irreparably compromised due to this particular illness.
Bryan Crumpler May 3, 2010:
expertise "uit de expertise..." is referring to "expert opinion" or "research by experts" or "expert evaluations", meaning a general reference to something with which an entire group of specialists/experts have (generally) concurred either independently or collectively over some nonspecific period of time.

"...volgens de expertiserend arts" is only referring to the fact that one particular (expert) doctor/medical specialist is the one summing up this statement regarding that which has already been studied/measured/evaluated by peers in his same field of expertise.

In other words: "Uit de expertise blijkt dat er XYZ zal onherroepelijk gebeuren volgens de expertiserend arts..." would mean something along the lines of "It is the opinion of experts in the field that XYZ is bound to occur, according to one specialist doctor..." or (wildly interpreted and in mildly archaic form) "Expert study of this peculiar phenomenon has demonstrated the likelihood of XYZ occurring again as real and imminent, so sayeth John Doe, a specialist [insert title here] who has devoted his life and work to this same field of research" ...

"27% gehele mens" refers to thedisability rating of a single person
kamilw May 2, 2010:
Yeah, surely 'de expertiserend arts' can be a medical specialist, specialist doctor etc. That's perhaps better than 'experienced doctor' which I initially wrote.
Could '27% gehele mens' be '27% of all people' despite being written in singular?
And 'uit de expertise'... does it refer to general experience or to an opinion given by a particular expert?
Peter Moor (asker) May 2, 2010:
expertiserend arts = (medical) specialist? After looking at this more closely, I think that this may be the solution. Do you agree? Still wondering about "gehele mens"...
Peter Moor (asker) May 2, 2010:
Flemish I should have mentioned that this is a Flemish text, so it is not necessarily in poor writing style. And I am also looking for help in translating this part of the sentence, not just a "word" as previously mentioned. Thanks.
kamilw May 2, 2010:
My Dutch is far from perfect but IMO this sentence may be written in poor style, there should be either the initial "from experience..." or the final "according to an/the experienced doctor" but not both in one sentence...

Selected

27% (of/to the) BAW/MAW, according to the [...]

BAW = body as a whole (also referred to as MAW, man as a whole)

Seems simple enough.

Examples:

...permanent disability of 27% BAW
...partial total disablement of 27% to the MAW
...motor impairment amounting to a holistic loss of 27% MAW
...sensory-motor loss of 27% of the BAW

I'll leave your decision for "expertiserend arts" up to what was mentioned in the discussion.

For sample usage, see the links...

Helpful to get a better understanding of the issue itself. Thanks.
